Ringing phone on the Blue Line?

I took the Blue line from Maverick to Govt Center today, around 5:15 p.m, and it was so annoying. A phone kept ringing over the loudspeakers for the entire ride. At first I thought it was an obnoxious person with a cell phone on speakerphone, but that was not the case. What's the deal, MBTA? Why didn't anyone pick up a phone that was ringing in the conductor's cab? So annoying. I'm actually pretty intrigued no matter how annoying it was. Who was on the other line? Who called the train?

Since the somewhat recent deadly accident on the Green Line, with some portion of the blame placed on the driver having been on her cell phone, it may just be that the driver did not answer the phone because otherwise he/she may have faced disciplinary action or even termination.

That doesn't explain why the P.A. was on the wqhole time, though.
