What the L.A. Times writers are saying..

This article by T.J. Simmers in the L.A. Times rips the Lakers' playing (or lack thereof) in Game 6. Some notable quotes:

They are an embarrassment. They went into the NBA Finals favored, the Celtics suffering injuries to several of their starters along the way, and still the Lakers could not measure up.

What beautiful words. He seems to channel Angry Shaugnessey. And something needs to be said about the L.A. Times internet format, where I had to scroll down nearly the entire page to find one article about the Game 6. It looks like they're trying to make it seem that the game never happened..

Mark Heisler for the L.A. Times wrote more about the history between the Celtics and the Lakers. The first line of his article? "Maybe the Lakers should have quit this rivalry while they were ahead."

Bill Plaschke's column, "MVP? More like MIA," discusses and demolishes Kobe Bryant for two pages. Quoted:

The league MVP was AWFUL, unable to break through even the most basic of one-on-one Celtic defenses, unable to carry a team that needed carrying.

In the six games of the series, he shot poorly, led inconsistently, had only one really dramatic moment, and that was on defense.

And, so, in voices that seemingly shook the TD Banknorth Garden, with Bryant standing at the foul line in the third quarter, here came those chants.

"You're . . . not . . . Jordan!" the fans sang, referring to Michael Jordan.

No, clearly, at this point he is not.

I'm hearing the rolling rally/victory parade will take place tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. I am surprised about the lack of celebration around Northeastern last night, but it seems like around the Garden was where all the action took place, along with the fact that it's summer, and a good chunk of students aren't on campus for the summer.
